Spookin' Out the Joint!

Most college students don't have a whole lot to work with in terms of holiday decorating given the limited space and number of restrictions on what can/cannot be hung or lit. Luckily, I have a studio all to myself so I did some meager decorating for Halloween - granted this stuff is probably gonna stay up for the rest of the year BUT I did put it up in honor of the Feast of the Dead. ^_^

It all looked a good deal spookier and more fun after adding some cute Halloween overlays courtesy of Pixlr (my favorite site for quick edits - check 'em out if you haven't.) and I do feel I could have added some more stuff. Next year!

Do you do any decorating for the holiday times, particularly Halloween? Let me know (or see!) what you have up around your place!

Surviving Midterms

For some of you, midterms are just looming on the horizon. For the rest of us they've already past. So this is a perfect opportunity to let you all know how best to survive them. Nowhere near as bad as finals week, but midterms can be just as exhausting and tense.

Midterm Survival Guide

☠ Take time from your study sessions to jam out to something really mellow and chill. I suggest pretty much anything from The Cure. ^_^

☠ Resist the urge to vamp out and actually go to sleep before midnight.

☠ Take a hot bath or shower with your favorite Autumn scented soap/bubble bath. Pumpkin Spice is my personal favorite but I imagine that might be hard to find if you aren't anywhere near a bath supply shop. Tea bags work in a jiffy though!

☠ Watch a movie. Something violent and bloody as a vicarious release for all your pent up stress. Slasher films are great for this, but if you prefer a supernatural bent I'd choose something like The Grudge.

☠ Burn some incense. Dragon's Blood could be useful to drawing on that powerful energy needed to tackle your studies and exams!

☠ Pet a cat. Enough said there.

☠ Take some time away from the textbooks and read this blog instead!

☠ And of course, break up your studying into blocks. Don't cram all in one go. While you're taking breaks between subjects or blocks - use any of the useful tips provided above.

Good luck on your exams, papers, presentations, etc.

What tips or tricks do you have whilst studying for midterms or how do you de-stress?

Movie Review: APT

Se-jin, a lonely department store employee, moves into a high-rise apartment building. One day she notices that the lights in the windows of the building opposite all start to mysteriously flicker at exactly 9:56pm. She begins to suspect that these occurrences are somehow linked to a series of suspicious deaths in the neighborhood.

APT is your standard Korean horror film - a good mix of suspense, plot intrigue, and supernatural jump-scares, topped off with a helluva lot of confusion. It seems that only Koreans really understand Korean films, then again, maybe it's just me.

Anyways, it jumps right in with Se-jin and her rather lonely lifestyle. She speaks to her fellow employees when needed and otherwise goes home and spends her time by herself. One night she's followed into the subway station by a woman in a red dress. This woman stands next to Se-jin on the platform and asks her "Aren't you lonely?"

This woman in red then proceeds to leap in front of the train, but not before trying to take Se-jin with her.

From this point on, Se-jin's life takes a rather spooky turn - she begins to notice flickering lights in the building across the way and it coincides with one resident committing suicide at 9:56 pm each night. Se-jin endeavors to solve the mystery and in doing so, befriends a wheelchair bound young lady from said building.

But the more Se-jin involves herself in the unnatural suicides taking place, the more attention she garners from not only the police, but the entity behind the killings. And so unravels a very sad tale about a lonely young woman who died a year ago and her fellow tenants who first cared for her and then spurned her.

I'll be honest, I cried a bit near the end. It was really freaking sad and just kind of made me lose hope for humanity in general. I would hope, sincerely hope, that the things this poor girl had to endure would never really happen to someone in the real world - but it's a silly hope. Because people are terrible and selfish.

Anyways.....

I did enjoy this film even though I didn't really find it all that scary. But the character interactions and development plus the plot twists were entertaining enough.

“Almost nobody dances sober, unless they happen to be insane.”

Yeah, I finally put up a new video. It's been several weeks and the last one was a room tour. Go check that out if you get bored, I guess.

Anyways, this just about covers everything going on lately. Cheers~!

Some Updates

It's been a while since I've posted anything of real value here and for that I am sorry, but things have been kind of...weird for me lately. So bare with it for now.

Some recent updates!~

 I turned 26 on October 1st. Blegh, I'm old.

I'm starting regular counseling sessions for my depression/anxiety/agoraphobia/issues.

The boy and I had a recent sushi date and it was wonderful!

I could be doing better in school, but alas....

I made pumpkin spice cookies. Recipe here.

Acquired some new clothing. Pics to follow soon.

 Still decorating my apartment.

My Current Ear Candy

This is just a sample of the wide mix of stuff I've been listening to lately. Every day seems to bring with it a radically different mood, so radically different tunes are a necessity. Like any of 'em?

a very merry unbirthday....

I'm 26 today. Not that it makes much of a difference. I'm just creeping that much closer to old age and death. Huzzah.

But maybe I'll get myself something nice. Like a bottle of wine. And bake cookies. That sounds like a good idea. Booze and baking. Wish me luck.
