The Dress that Crawled out of the 80's and into My Closet

When I was still in high school (something like six or seven years ago) I made the decision to hit up one of the school dances. My friend Emily and I had nothing better to do on a Saturday night and I really wanted an excuse to going shopping and find something wacky and pretty.

Now, if memory serves I found this dress at a Ragstock in the St. Cloud mall.

I hardly ever wear it, as it's a bit flashy for me, but it's still one of my favorite items in my closet. Maybe I'll find a way to coordinate it this summer.

Anyways, I wore it to this dance and everyone loved it. ^_^

Changes in the Wind....

So the sky was a few shades of awesome last week. The clouds had this cool wavy texture to them just after it got done raining one morning. So, what does any good blogger do? She whips out her camera and captures the moment, of course.

After this week, there will be only one more week of normal classes left of the semester. Then it will be finals week. I still have so much to do and it's driving me crazy because I can't seem to just sit down and make myself do it. I'd rather be here....or on Facebook....or maybe Youtube. Or even sitting outside with a good book seeing as the sun's finally come out again.

Everyone in English class loved my Gothic Lolita paper. I hope I got some helpful comments during the revision time but I haven't looked yet. It was quite fun to write and I hope I actually get a good grade on it. I'm gonna have my professor look it over on Monday perhaps to see what he has to say about it. Could be interesting....

Last weekend I cleaned up my room. It has been in great need of a cleanup for weeks now so I finally got around to doing it. I made some rather significant changes too.

First, I hung up all my Lolita clothing. I kind of had to, seeing as I took my bed apart. But it's nice to see them all hanging there again. I look forward to wearing them this summer.

I created a hat display. I have more hats then just this, but these were the ones that had been haphazardly tossed into my closet and were in danger of becoming damaged. So I took a chain, tacked it up to the wall and used clothespins to secure the hats to the wall. It's cute too!

And yes, I took my futon frame apart and now the mattress is just laying on the ground. It's actually more comfortable this way and it'll keep me cooler to be closer to the a/c vent this summer once it gets hot.

I also have a youtube video up of a brief room tour. It's on my page, which I posted the link to in a previous blog. Have fun hunting!

Happy Friday the 13th

This is probably one of my favorite days of the year, honestly. It always tends to be a good luck kind of day for me. And right now, things are looking pretty good.

I bought a camera on yesterday. I'm having it sent to the store in my hometown so I can pick it up next weekend or something. Totally excited because it takes HD video and I can officially start vlogging again! Woot!

I slept in today which means I feel great. Seriously though, how often can I roll out of bed at 10 am and be totally kosher with that? I don't have class until 1 pm and I'm honestly thinking of skipping in favor of working on two papers and biology homework. So we'll see.

My bunion surgery is also scheduled. I'll be operated on Wednesday, May 9 at noon. I'm kind of excited. It's my first surgery and it'll be a neat experience. That and I'm totally looking forward to my foot not hurting like hell no matter what kind of shoes I wear.

I hope the rest of you are having a great day. Ja ne~

Good afternoon lovelies~

So it's like five o'clock and I really should eat something, but I'm quite happily seated in front of my laptop watching Youtube videos. Per the usual, really. I have some Easter goodies hanging out in my room so maybe I'll much on those. I made couscous earlier, so it's not like I'm totally starving today or anything....

Well, my weekend was interesting. On Friday I had another appt. with my doctor to get my antidepressant prescription renewed so I'm safely back on that for another month. It's been causing some pretty awkward night sweats since I started taking it, but we're gonna keep on it for another month and see if some of these weird side effects disappear or not. I mean, I can live with it. I like the meds otherwise...

On Saturday it rained and was completely crap. It was a bad day for me and I didn't feel like doing much. I was supposed to go to JoAnn Fabrics to find some lace and elastic thread and I just didn't feel up to it. I spent most of the day camped out on the couch and pretending to be dead.

Sunday was fun though. I had lunch at my mom's place and 'nommed on ham, mashed potatoes, and asparagus. We also had to find hidden easter eggs in the living room. After that I went over to dinner with Chris' family and hung out with them for a bit.

Then it was time to go back to campus. Blah. So here I am....

I made it to my English class where a very fun discussion about Punk rock and style took place and on Wednesday we're probably discussing Goth. I was quite delighted that a few of my classmates (who are all about 18-19 years old) actually knew about the Sex Pistols and The Clash. It made for an interesting discussion.

I skipped my Mythology class because I had a monster headache. After that abated bit, I made food and started in on Youtube. It prompted me to give my cellphone a try with the camcorder function. See, my digital camera takes excellent photos but the camcorder function takes .MOV files. Which is Quicktime and would be totally okay if I owned a mac. But I don't. And Windows Movie Maker totally hates Quicktime files. So it was always very hard to make vlogs with my digital camera.

Anyways....I gave the cellphone a go. Et voila!~ It works and I can easily move these darling little .mp4 files over to my computer using an SD card. ^_^ So I took two videos today and they're up on my Youtube channel which was dismally empty for the longest time. Have a look:

My Channel ish Here!

That's about all. I'm gonna keep sucking up copious amounts of water (donating tomorrow) and get to work on my blasphemous math homework. Laterz!

The Reaper and the Flowers

For this month's theme post, I'm going to share with you all a poem that is a favorite of mine. I first heard it in song form (which took my breath away) and from them on I've adored it. It was written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, an American poet in the 1800's.

There is a Reaper whose name is Death,

And, with his sickle keen,
He reaps the bearded grain at a breath,
And the flowers that grow between.

``Shall I have nought that is fair?'' saith he;
``Have nought but the bearded grain?
Though the breath of these flowers is sweet to me,
I will give them all back again.''

He gazed at the flowers with tearful eyes,
He kissed their drooping leaves;
It was for the Lord of Paradise
He bound them in his sheaves.

``My Lord has need of these flowerets gay,''
The Reaper said, and smiled;
``Dear tokens of the earth are they,
Where he was once a child.

``They shall all bloom in fields of light,
Transplanted by my care,
And saints, upon their garments white,
These sacred blossoms wear.''

And the mother gave, in tears and pain,
The flowers she most did love;
She knew she should find them all again
In the fields of light above.

O, not in cruelty, not in wrath,
The Reaper came that day;
'Twas an angel visited the green earth,
And took the flowers away.

Please have a listen to the song also, it's quite beautiful.
